Tips For Singing With A Live Orchestra

The Julie Brown Voice Studio caters to students of all skill levels, including singers who have upcoming appearances with live orchestras. My experience singing with an orchestra comes in handy when I'm working with these students. Here are some tips: Tap into the vibe- There is a sense of a millisecond delay when working with an orchestra, versus working with a piano accompaniment or band. So many people are involved and everyone is looking to the conductor. Let the millisecond delay allow you to be in a more peaceful place when you sing. Feel the energy and allow it to calm you. This divine energy supports you while you sing. Fermata time is your diva time to shine! You can't rush an orchestra or a conductor, but you sure as hell can take your time during fermatas because the orchestra is pausing for you. That's your diva time. Be a sweet diva! A good diva is supported by the divine energy. She supports the orchestra and the orchestra supports her. Everyone has a divine gift. Take the ego out and support each other. Enjoy your best voice! Inner and outer. Thanks for reading! Julie Brown

Take 20 Years off your Speaking Voice in One Lesson

I help students in one lesson master their breath control and support which results in a more resonant confident speaking tone. Poor breath support causes us to wear our voices out. This leads to improper placement. Come to Julie Brown Voice Studio for a  Speaking Voice  Makeover.  Politicians, Public speakers, teachers, attorneys and salesmen benefit greatly from these valuable tools.   This is a 20 sec clip of Kathy's speaking voice at the beginning and end of the lesson. At the beginning her voice was more scratchy sounding due to the lack of air supporting her voice. I supplied the Acapelladiva method of breathing which  led to a more supported clear and youthful tone. As the head of hiring at a major corporation, she was so pleased to see that her voice kept the interviewees at ease and that she experienced a more successful interview and fruitful hiring process.

Being in the Now when you Sing

Often when students enter the studio they freeze up when they perform. To perform you must be in the now. Students think of what they will do next ie lyrics, technical placement of sound  When they think of other things they are not in the now. When one is in the now one has the power to send emotion with intensity and sing with expression and emotion. This is what moves the audience and make a dynamic performer who moves the audience into the NOW.  Take it a step further and be in the now in all areas of your life!

Performance Tips: Conscious Trio

In my studio students arrive with a goal to perform or to audition. I make sure each student implements the tools to help them perform at their best. This includes Conscious Thought, Conscious Posture, and Conscious Breathing. All three are inter-related and effect each other. Conscious Thought: We must have confidence that we can sing! Do not allow negative, critical thoughts to enter. Do not allow comments from jealous people to enter. Your thoughts are more powerful than others' words. Be your best fan, not your worst critic. Most importantly, have fun when you perform! This is your moment to shine. With Conscious Thought you stand proudly and breathe deeply. Conscious Posture: Conscious Posture and Conscious Breathing go hand in hand. Good posture centers your breath and your thoughts. It's a physical manifestation of your total being, which you must have when you perform. Conscious Breathing: Fear causes us to breathe shallow. Conscious Breathing allows us to breathe more deeply, and have plenty of air for every phrase we sing. And, it calms us! So, when performing remember to breathe! Mastering these three AcapellaDiva actions keep your mind, body, and breath centered resulting in a dynamic, expressive performance with proper pitch and luscious tone.

Finding Your Unique Voice, Your Unique Way

Finding your best voice is finding your unique voice. No voice is like another. No brain is like another. We all have different neural cues in our brain that help us remember how it feels to sing clearly and effortlessly. In the Julie Brown Voice Studio, I do instant vocal analysis and identify my students' unique neural cues to help them find their original voice. This comes in very handy for my artistic students who write their own music and helps you, as a performer, stand out. No matter what level you are, you can apply the AcapellaDiva method to find your unique voice, your unique way. Certain words help access technique and they are unique to each singer. I help my students identify their cue so they are able to access singing effortlesslly at their every "beck and call". These easy cues help you remember your technique outside the studio. When this technique is mastered, the sky is the limit! Sing your best! Voice Students, Knowing Your Potential With The Tools You Have

Many times students come into my studio and they have thoughts of a limitation due to experiences in the past. One way I help people realize their potential is to think of the present and follow up in the future. Being in the present means breathing correctly, being calm, and eliminating negative self-talk. As singers we are vulnerable and exposed, as we are the instrument and we take personally how people react to our voice. We must be our best fan, not our worst critic! When you are your best fan you will reach your potential, especially when you incorporate the Acapelladiva℠ method of conscious thought, conscious breathing, and conscious action. Learn more about the Acapelladiva method to utilize the tools to help you reach your vocal potential. Sing your best and speak your best! Love, Julie

A Vocal Picture Reveals a Thousand Words

Singing with Tension VS. Singing with Ease When a student enters my studio I make instant vocal analysis. If there is tension in the face overtones are affected and the sound is affected. Jaw tension, singing back and poor breathing affects the ability of the student to have the optimal resonance.   With the Acapelladiva method students sing with ease and clarity of sound.   See in the picture below how I transformed my students to sing with ease and clarity.
